Diego’s Annual Hot Chip Challenge Official Rules
All contestants agree to take part in the contest under the following rules:
- Participants must be 21 years of age or older
- The contest will consist of seven rounds with participants able to withdraw at any stage either during a round or before the next one begins
- The chips will begin at medium heat and will increase as rounds progress
- Each contestant will receive the chip for that round at the beginning of the round
- Contestants can drink as much water as they want, but dunking is not allowed
- Contestants will be required to eat the entire chip and its toppings in one minute or less. When all chips in the round have been consumed by contestants, there will be a 60 second waiting period until the next round begins.
- Contestants will be allowed to finish any chip remaining in their mouth when time is called. This rule does not apply to tie breaker situation detailed in Rule #9
- The winner will be determined by being the last remaining contestant willing to continue in the contest
- In the event of a tie, remaining contestants will be given a 6” cheese and chile tostada and the first one to finish will be declared the winner
- Contestants may not coat the inside of their mouth with any kind of protective coating and will be disqualified if caught doing so
- Any contestant that drops their chip on the floor will be disqualified
- Each contestant will be given sour cream or milk to consume when desired, but consuming any will result in automatic disqualification
- Any contestant that vomits either during the round or within the one minute period after the round has completed will be disqualified
- Any participating contestants that leave his or her seat at any time during the challenge will be disqualified
- Each contestant recognizes that excess consumption of peppers can lead to and/or contribute to health issues
- The judge's decision is final
Hot Chip Challenge Liability Waiver
Contestants can sign this waiver ahead of time and bring it to the challenge or sign it at the event.
